Man, I tried watching the wire but could never get into it. Seemed to all over the place. (Did notice the dialogue and characters weren't "TV" street, but really sounded like real people.) Now I keep hearing about how it's the greatest thing ever. Gonna have to check out a dvd set or sumthin, give it a 2nd chance.
If you start from season 1 it should grab you pretty quick if you're into crime dramas. I don't know a better depiction of the cycle of crime, social decay and systemic failures displayed with this level of authenticity.
For some the wire is a borderline docu-drama.
