I think the sistas are beautiful...and their beauty does not minimize mine in any way. I am brown like chocolate cake batter, my hair is loc'd and dyed to match the color of rich mohogany..brown eyes, 5 feet tall, 145(yeah, I am thick in all the right places)....my great gramndmother was white. But u cannot tell my looking at me(well maybe my hair gives a hint)...I adore my blackness and all those who share this wonderful swagger called Negro.....including thi sistas in the photo. My point is, while we must proclaim our own beauty, that doesnt erase the american beauty standard that typically embraces lighter skin, straighter hair and thinner/smaller features.
DV is like Frederick Douglass: down for his people but attracted to women that don't look like him because, at the base of things, they most resemble white women. Light skin and straight hair are prerequisites for getting your picture posted on DV's site.
As for the ladies in the picture, they are light-skinned women. They aren't that hot to me...maybe the one in the middle is, but that's about it.

I am so shocked about DV taste in "black" lol women. As a chocolate sister, I understand that many "black" men seem to feel that lighter woman that looks a little black is better that the woman that is clearly black. I consider myself the blackest PERSON I know and with that being said give me a chocolate guy any day. Not that there's anything wrong with lighter skin but since I love my skin and I no my skin is not always considered attractive, I find black men with my tone to be very attractive. Not to interject so late, but all this discussion is about those men who prefer "light-skinned" with "good hair", which apparently means it's not nappy (however we define nappy).
Perhaps this is chicken and the egg, but would Black men even have all these choices if Black women, on the whole, also liked "nappy hair". I ask because way too many of my girls spent A LOT of time and money, 8 hours on a Saturday, in a chair at a salon getting their hair pressed and/or permed. Because the thought of wearing their hair in its natural state is simply out of the question.
Maybe if more Black women walked around au natural, and had genuine pride in it, like the great example set by The Good Nurse, Black men would be falling at them.
It's not hair. It's not skin tone/color. It's confidence and a certain intangible spirit that attracts men and women alike.
