Such inequity! Astounding!

Skip's definition of a criminal pretty much sums of the values of America and Europe.

Definitely not fair, however, if he is on probation with random drug testing, people you have to be smart. . Go get a prescription.

True! Is that not what life is all about. Understanding the landscape and maneuvering around the landmines. It's not fair that babies suffer from birth defects but a reality none the less. Life is not always fair. It's rather hard to feel sorry for dude.

This post isn't really about fairness, is it? I thought it was about challenging perceptions. Why is one guy perceived as a drug dealer and the other is not? Whether it's fair or not is beside the point.

True the post is about perceptions, however as we are in the process of dissecting this issue of erroneous perceptions, unfairness is one of the word/themes that keeps on coming up.

Legal versus Illegal... Is the real point isn't it?!

"Legal versus Illegal... Is the real point isn't it?!"

I don't think so.

What is "legal" is subjective, and increasingly arbitrary.

Slavery was once legal. Jim Crow was legal.

I submit to you, Casper, that our current drug laws will one day be viewed as racist and predatory as the southern Jim Crow laws of the pre-Civil Rights era.

We decide the laws. Not some remote, removed omnipresent, all powerful "massa" figure.

These are supposed to be "our" laws, aren't they?

Either that, or we are all passive powerless slaves.

So was marrying 13 year old girls... Men (non-officers) carried guns on their hips too. Societies progress DV... I am not supporting pot laws... I am promoting common sense. Listen if you want to go to jail ... Then break the law. Do you travel 30 miles over the speed limit everywhere you drive. No you don't even though you may not agree but you understand the outcome. Additionally, white people are by far the biggest users and growers of pot my man and drugs overall. This dude's issue is a lack of self discipline... No more ...No less.

Casper, I think you missed the essence of the piece.

This was meant not to lament the personal situation of Mr. Epps.

This piece was designed to illustrate the conformist nature of Americans (like you) who passively subscribe to institutional absurdities like our current drug laws that enrich some and destroy others.

Epps is not in prison because he broke any natural law (who is the victim?). Epps is in prison because he competes with the ultimate drug dealers.

Americans are a nation of addicts. Look in any American medicine cabinet for the evidence.

Epps is in jail because he broke a law... Natural or not. When you punish your kid for disobeying your order to not eat the cookies.. What is that natural law or your personal preference. At the end of the day you could care less your kid's argument as you are ruler of your household. Your son feels it's unjust as who made you GOD!... Thus we have a nation like other nations on earth that determined that certain products are legal and others are not. Now you may disagree but majority wins... But in your household you win! It may not always be fair. But it is the nature of mankind!
Secondly, Epp's weed I am 100% sure is not competing with Viagra.

Casper,

Is this nation your parent?

According to the constitution, the government is here to serve ... us ... not us ... it.

Civil Servants are servants of the people.

When civil servants start passing criminal, monopolistic, and predatory "laws" upon the people it was supposed to ... serve, those "laws" can kiss my black ass.

"Secondly, Epp's weed I am 100% sure is not competing with Viagra." Casper

You are 100% wrong. Weed competes with everything from Anacin to Zoloft.

"Is this nation your parent?"

No it is not... And I don't agree with every law. However, just because I don't agree with paying taxes I pay them to avoid the consequences Mr. non-confomist. Do you pay your taxes? I am sure you do. So you are in the same line as all the other wise people.

As I see it...don't bitch about the drug companies. Invest or start your own...
