A small group in Pearland, Texas gathered on Saturday at the Houston Memorial Gardens to symbolically lay to rest the "N-word."

"I would like for you to take note of the casket," said organizer Tammie Campbell to the crowd gathered for the mock funeral. "The first documented use [of the N-word] was 1786, which we lay to rest today, 7-7-7."

A movement to outlaw the use of the word is spreading, reports CNN. In January of this year, another small Texas town banned the word, and in March the New York City council voted unanimously to symbolically outlaw it.

"We want positive affirmations from everyone," Robbie Evans of the University of Houston told the crowd on Saturday, "that the N-word dies with all of this."

Once again the MSM hits us in the head with "news" of Handkerchief head know nothing post-civil rights Negroes led by the nose by neo-liberal charlatans picking their battles for them.

This is a non-issue sucking up far too much energy from supposedly educated empowered black people.

Quiet as it's kept - "Nigga" (Only punk ass conformists say 'the N word') makes white folks far more uncomfortable than black people. The term is a perfect example of taking a weak abstraction and converting it to an empowering tool. The term is used in a variety of ways, it's tonal and complex. White people, and many Negros don't understand it. That's why they are intimidated by it.

A lesson plantation Negros are most reluctant to learn.

I agree - a total distraction.

Though it would be nice for blacks to stop calling each other niggas, the whole media circus around it is purely a distraction. I think the prevalence of hip hop in mainstream culture, however, has enabled this distraction. White people listen (and laugh at us) as rapper after rapper calls blacks niggaz. There is a certain satisfaction that whites find in hearing blacks call ourselves niggas.

Certainly, calling ourselves niggas does not equate to "empowerment." Yes, the word doesn't "hurt" when it comes from black people, but the same psuedo-revolutionary-Beamer drivin' negroes that scream about how nigga is meaningless now would be fightin' if a white boy said it to 'em. I don't call that empowerment. I call that a bunch of careless "niggas" making money and looking for excuses.

dayum. They spent money on that shit? Maybe they could've put the thing in a card board box and bury it in Sam Houston's backyard. For free. Dumb Niggers (oops)
