The rally, and the coalition that is organizing it, is hoping to pierce the consciousness of Americans and pressure the Bush administration into taking a more active line to end the conflict and help the refugees of the violence - most of whom are living in degrading conditions in neighboring Chad.
For this effort, the coalition has recruited major celebrities like George Clooney and Elie Wiesel to speak to those assembled. Though recent reports have indicated that the turnout might be lower than expected, organizers, while refusing to give a concrete number, believe it will be in "the tens of thousands."Little known, however, is that the coalition, which has presented itself as "an alliance of over 130 diverse faith-based, humanitarian, and human rights organization" was actually begun exclusively as an initiative of the American Jewish community.

Hoax? Come on now. Darfur is a huge humanitarian issue. Even the people that say the situation is exaggerated, claim it's ONLY 200,000 people murdered not 400,000 (like that number is acceptable). It's sad, it's wrong, it's inhumane. Should we send our military over there.....HELLLL NAAWWWWW! Darfur is not a threat to our security. This is a UN issue (too bad the UN doesn't function like it should).

I neither said that the incursion was unjustfied, (it wasn't) nor that it is or was criminal.
Of course you didn't say those things, I did.
Ethiopia went into Somalia because White America told them to, and you think it's justified and legal. Wow. So I guess in Fisher's world it's ok to kill Africans (who are "your people" anytime winning an argument makes it convenient to classify them as such) as long as it is done with the blessing of the U.S. and so long as it's the Christians killing the Muslims. Got it.

II, you have no idea what you are talking about.
The conflict between Ethiopia and the Somalis goes back many centuries to the times when the Arabs conquered this part of Abyssinian territory, imposed Islam on the population, broke them of from the Ethiopian/Abyssinian entity and used it as a base for massive slave raiding into the heart of Ethiopia as well as down to the South into what today is Kenya and Tanzania.
The Ethiopians have an extremely long memory, being that they been around as a cohesive state more than 3500 years.
They're not about to let Arab wanna be imperialists take over again and disrupt the unity of Ethiopia.
Also DV. Since he's your hero you might want to check out what Haile Selassie had to say about the Arabs, the Somalis (whom he characterized part of the Ethiopian nation) and the Ethiopians.

Your need to interpret the geopolitical conflicts on the Horn of Africa as an Arab v Black phenomena prohibits you from appreciating Insurgent's point.
The recent incursion by Ethiopian forces into Somalia as a proxy for US/Israeli Corporate aggression - has nothing to do with the 3500 year old Ethiopian memory.
It has to do with the Colonialism disguised as "regime change". Remind yourself Fish, that despite the patches with the Ethiopian flag, those uniforms the Ethiopian soldiers wore when they attacked Somalia were U.S. uniforms. As were the weapons, tanks, attack helicopters, bombs and bullets.
Ethiopia did not attack Somalia.
Ethiopian puppets and proxies attacked Somalia.
The NeoCon Right, lied about WMD's to force war, invasion and occupation of Iraq.
The NeoLiberal Left, is hyping the "Save Darfur" to pacify opposition to the hi-jacking of African oil.
They've got people like you so programmed, that when faced with the identity of the puppet masters behind the Darfur propaganda - the first thing out of your mouth is to suggest a "hatred of Jews".

Once again. You don't know what you are talking about. You state stuff categorically without back up. Do you even know the history of the current folks running Ethiopia?
Who they are, where they came from, how they got into power?
As far as Ethiopian weapons are concerned. Even if these were US supplied (and they aren't, being mostly Soviet made weapons left over from the pro-Soviet Mengistu regime), that doesn't make them puppets.

The current Ethiopian regime is not a "Soviet" proxy by any means.
The Soviet Union has not existed in 20 years.

Nowhere did I say that the current government was a Soviet proxy.
Menes and his guys are former Marxist-Leninist-Maoist guerillas who waged a long guerilla war against the Mengistu regime and the Cubans.
They fought Soviet imperialism as well as US imperialism.
