NEGRO MEDIA FLOGGING OF THE WEEK

Prosecutor: Not enough evidence against Vick
Poindexter says he has no eyewitnesses to dogfighting

Chesapeake, Va. — The prosecutor investigating whether property owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was part of a dog fighting operation said Wednesday he still doesn't have solid evidence linking Vick to dogfighting.

"I know everybody is saying, 'When are those fools in Surry County going to get up off their butts and do something?'" Gerald Poindexter told The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk on Wednesday. "But what are we going to do?"

TOO BAD POSITIVE NEWS ABOUT BROTHERS DOESN'T GET AS MUCH PLAY AS THE NEGATIVE:

Vick donates money to Va. Tech victims

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick Thursday donated $10,000 to the families of the mass killings at Virginia Tech, his alma mater.

The Newport News, Va., native played at the school from 1997-2001. He has partnered with the United Way on the project, and is making the donation through the Vick Foundation.

"When I saw what happened at Virginia Tech, I knew I needed to do something to help," he said on the Falcons' Web site. "I am challenging my teammates and other NFL players to give their time or money to help these families, too."

One a week like clockwork. The media are consistent, aren't they?

Simple. Bad news sells. And last I checked white folk aren't the only people of with fame. Show us the empirical data then you have a case.

Agree with Casper.

Also, just for the record TSO did not bash Vick.

Big J

With what did Casper say that you agree?

I couldn't really discern a point.

There's plenty of "bad news" besides Vick. Why his pit bulls are on the cover of newspapers and most Americans don't even know who Douglas Feith is, is beyond me.

No reference to TSO.

You gettin' sensitive man?

LOL

Boy Hatred is worse than AIDS in this country. And more contagious.

It would be nice if people could wear condoms to protect their little fragile egos.

Imagine hating a man you don't even know.

Vick plays for the #1 sport in America. He is a great football player. That makes him a celebrity which brings mega media attention. Celebrity bad news $ell$... a la Paris Hilton, Britney Spears etc. The point (I think) you are attempting to make is that black people of celebrity status get more (quantity of articles) bad press than non-blacks. I say show some empirical data to prove that's the case. Then I will agree with you based on the evidence. Otherwise, I do not see it that way. I am not hypersensitive to news about blacks or non-blacks who may have broken the law. And if he did not break the law then it's still news in our society(good or bad). Just like the white Duke lacrosse players who were later found not to be guilty but there lives are ruined possibly. Sorry, Vick gets no special pass in this case just because he is black. Because that same media helped to pump him up to be great in the eyes of the fans which helps him earn the millions in endorsements deals etc. Additionally, most athletes white & black do many charitable deeds that don't get news.

Pretty astute analysis Casper.

Still close, but not quite there.

It's not the pure "quantity of negative" coverage of blacks.

It's the context, texture and pattern of coverage of CERTAIN TYPES of blacks that I note.

Young, black, rich, heterosexual, THREATENING, black men like Mike Vick or Isaiah Washington are covered more like convicted felons than like mere famous people caught up in the tsunami of celebrity gossip coverage.

The sarcastic, loathsome, cynical presumption of guilt consistent of the coverage of black athletes and Hip Hop stars belies the innate resentment and fear of the people covering them.

Freud would have called it collective penis envy.

I would no doubt have to agree with you on some level that the average man of color and more so that the above average(celeb) man of color is not going to get the media's benefit of the doubt in this society. And I might agree that with data (if out there)your case may be proven. With that being said.

What I just said is nothing new. Your a smart guy. If your job and income potential were based on a mix of factors:

1) Athletic ability
2) Prior production (college,minors)
3) Image
4) Image
5) Charitable
*6) If Minority really stay out of trouble.

What would you attempt to do knowing that you are more pre-disposed not to get the benefit of the doubt from white media. Chris Rock would say "It ain't Right but I Understand". We always have to work extra for that dollar. Even Vick can't get to comfortable. But some of the cats do DV.. They do. But at the end of the day... They living well. I am most concerned about the brother's in those circumstances who can't afford the high priced attorney or PR firm to make it go away.

Casper, do not mistake my acknowledgment of media bias to be simply personal concern for Michael Vick.

MV can take care of himself.

I'm pointing out the pattern of media coverage to further sound the alarm about the importance of independent thinking alternative media and counterbalancing voices.

God knows I don't want to get into it with you - but that is part of the reason I see Hip Hop as important. It's been an important voice for that for years before we had blogs.

Casp and DV you guys are on the same page. If you live in the ATL like me you do not have to be hyper sensitive to understand that there is a whole different level to what they are throwing at Vick. And at the same time, his dumb ass should know better than to be anywhere around foolishness like that.

The problem as I see it is that these Black men, who are the primary product of the number 1 sport (or for that matter most of the popular sports and entertainment) in America, and a multi billion dollar industry, are just well kept slaves. Owners would not be subject to someone's discipline and their livelihood wouldn't be in jeopardy every time the make a mistake.

HipHop is important. As long as we use it for the benefit of our people. I see it like this DV. from Marcus to Malcom to MLK to Mandella we as black men have always had the history of the challenges presented to men of color. The sacrifices that these men made. They each put their lives on the line. No matter what other events may have occurred that people don't agree with concerning them. The fact is these men had a bulls-eye tattoo all over them. Why? for the right to speak out against the bullshit of their time. Most men wouldn't take on that burden. So my point is this. Black men with a little money can not get comfortable because things have not changed all that much. Secondly, if your going to make the media for something why not for social change for the black man like Jim Brown. What's the point of having a voice if it's waisted on non-sense. What's the point if you have loot but the popo still looking to arrest you cause your black in the wealthy hood. What's the point of having the voice if you are treated like a star but your cousins are treated like second class citizens when it comes to school funding. Mortgage lending and police profiling. So I feel a little about MV... But I am really not concerned to much about him or HipHop artist that are not taking the opportunity they have been blessed with. That's all. We have many chances in one life to make it count.

Good point EM.

However, the same can and should be said for Corporate Negros who are essentially participants in the same hypocrisy, for much less money and perks.

DV I couldn't agree with you more. I usually point it out to them when they come to me complaining about how the boss is treating them or crying about how they might get laid off. If you don't want to be a slave, raise up off your cowardly azz and "discover" the plantation, ala Christopher Columbus.

This is the kind of BS that I am talking about.

NFL enters probe of Vick
By STEVE WYCHE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 05/25/07
Flowery Branch — NFL security has contacted investigators in Surry County, Va., to offer its services in the investigation of illegal dogfighting at a property owned by Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Exodus Mentality says WTF??? Since when did the police need NFL security to help them investigate ahything?!?!?!

How many tens of thousands of dallars are being wasted on this nonsense? Figure that out and you will have some idea of how bad they want to nail this rich nigra.

Denmark Vesey said...

"NFL Security"?

Damn Exodus. Sounds like we have arrived at full on Fascism in this country.

Private investigators to ... "help" ... the police?

What kind of shit is that?

There was a study by a brother from Stanford on this topic.
It pointed out that when you average it out a corporate lawyer or doctor will percentage wise make out better than the average pro athlete. Playing careers of the average pro athlete is about 4 years. Secondly, the average salary accross all major sports is a like 1.1 million before taxes, etc. Not chump change but many if they don't invest well or don't get scammed or buy assets that they can not maintain beyond their playing careers many will end up bouncing clubs. Or slinging rocks like a couple of former players just got caught doing. Lifstyles are not always what they seem.
