An Iraqi boy reacts after seeing his sister and both of his parents killed in the car, in Ramadi, 100 kilometers west of Baghdad, 2005-01-05. Four Iraqi civilians were killed and two others were injured when U.S. soldiers opened fire.

Which leads me to believe this type of nonsensical violence was designed to make people angry.

Imagine how it makes millions of Iraqis and hundreds of millions of other Muslims feel.

All occupiers are hated. Always.

I suspect the occupation was designed (we now knoow there never was a real threat of WMD's) to provoke Arabs and the Muslim world to hate Americans as much as they hate Israelis.

The founders of the American state understood that the proper functioning of a democracy required an educated electorate. It is this understanding that justifies a system of public education and that led slaveholders to resist the spread of literacy among their chattels.
