We all knew it was going to happen, we just didn't know when or how. The thing is, and this goes in conjunction with Ed Burns's commentary on comparing the gangsters who started the Baltimore crime culture to the ones of today; he said that the baby boys of today (my term) are far more socio-pathic. We were first struck with who Omar was when he stated that "A man has to have a code". We knew that he was different; some of us in the hood have always secretly preyed that there were Omars out there. He didn't need to steal from the dope boys and give it to the poor; just keep stealing from the dope boys and let them know what being a victim felt like. Then they created his character. I don't think there has ever been any real Omars, but I think we all wanted there to be one.

His passing took my breath with the force of an embolus.
ReplyDeleteYea DV...you spoiled it (but my girl did to saying, "You,re not going to believe what I read about Omar!!"). Jeez, 'precciate that.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch it OnDemand. It's my treat that I look forward to every Sunday night (damn, only two episodes left).
My fav line of Omar's is "A man's gotta have a code."

It was so sudden and unexpected. I was at least expecting him to go out in a gun fight - not something that simple.
ReplyDeleteRIP
