this actually reminds me of the time when rapping was about having fun with the beat and rhymes.
i don't like the song though. The beat is too west coast for my personal taste because it clashes with his voice and his rhymes. whoever produced it should have given it to Game?
I'm not sure what you mean about east coast/west coast is over because although is definitely dominating the airwaves right now, artists from NY, Philly and Cali are still putting out music that has a distinct sound for their respecive coasts/regions. about the beat, i mean west coast as in it has a very west coast sound to it, like a throwback DJ Quick song or something.
Kalena you right about that. The beat aint far off from what the West Coast has done from time to time.
However, the West Coast is really just an extension of the South. Damn near every black person in CA can trace their people back to Texas, Louisiana or Arkansas.
What it is about this cut ... is the drawwwwwl ...
Seriously DV??
ReplyDelete....guilty as charged man...
This mess is good and terrible!
And by the way...I don't like this stuff because I am a RAP LOVER! The beat is not even hot!??!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Nah Soteria you aint old, lame nor one of them Rap Haters.
ReplyDeleteBut you sleepin' on this cut.
Fire.
I likes!
ReplyDeleteSoteria, the beat is the best part.

oh. Polow Da Don. Not a west coast producer. he must be trying something new.
ReplyDeleteKalena,
ReplyDeleteThis is about as South as South gets.
East Coast / West Coast is over.
I thought I would never say this, but the south is generating the most innovation and social commentary in Rap right now.
Lil Wayne is an extension of both Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Baldwin.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting about lil wayne. i concur.
i meant although the south is dominating airwaves
ReplyDeleteOkay, i put my finger on it. IMO the funky bassline and the timing of the clap make me think of Mack 10, Ice Cube, Dub C not Rich Boy. That's just me.

Ah Looka Here
Them 3 words say a thousand things
Dv,
ReplyDeletecorrection:
"Just left New York city, hooked up wit Diddy, finna BLOW past Fiddy. you gon have ta WIPE ME DOWN!"
is as south as south gets
but yeah, any time a sentence starts out with, contains or ends in 'ah looka here', you know some straightening is getting done lol
"Just left New York city, hooked up wit Diddy, finna BLOW past Fiddy. you gon have ta WIPE ME DOWN!"
ReplyDeleteDamn
That's more south than "fixin'"
